I hope we made enough?

If you tried the recipe that I posted a few days ago for the Hungarian dinner rolls, I found a better recipe.  I hunted around old family cook books and notes and finally came across a recipe that was traditional (for our family anyway) easy and tastes great.

thought I would share this one with you as I ended up making 6 dozen for the party tomorrow. LOL  of course there was more that 6 dozen actually made, testers ya know.  LOL

=======================================================================
HUNGARIAN SWEET ROLLS

  • 2 packets active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

  • 4-5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla
  • ¼ cup Honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm milk

Preparation
  1. To proof the yeast: In a small bowl or glass measuring cup, combine yeast with 1/2 cup lukewarm milk and sugar. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of flour and mix with a fork. Let proof until bubbly.
  2. To make the dough: In a large mixing bowl using a wooden spoon, or a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, mix together flour, egg yolks, yogurt or sour cream, vanilla, honey and salt. Add 4 cups flour and mix. Dough will be crumbly at this point.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and remaining 1/2 cup milk, and mix until well incorporated. If necessary, add up to 1 additional cup flour to achieve a smooth, but sticky, dough. The dough will probably not clean the sides of the bowl. Scrape down sides of bowl, cover with greased plastic wrap and let rise until doubled.
  4. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and use in your favorite recipe calling for a yeast-raised sweet dough. After it is shaped according to your recipe, let it rise again until nearly doubled and bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until light brown.

These rolls were just awesome right out of the oven with fresh cream butter.

So for those of lucky family members and close friends that are joining us in celebrating the 100th birthday of my our Grandfather, these will be a real treat.

I hope we made enough?

Happy Reading
Lynn
