Today is OPENING DAY for the Oakland Athletics! Here in sunny California. I’m sure it is, or rather was, opening day for your local baseball team as well.
The smell of hot dogs cooking in their own juices for hours, the roasting of peanuts. "Get your peanuts here, Peanuts, Peanuts!" A vendor yelling as he walks up and down the steep stairs. Suddenly a bag of peanuts goes whizzing past you to a fan a few seats down. As you bite into a juicy hot dog with your favorite toppings. And of course, the day wouldn't be complete without either the $6.00 soda or the $8.00 beer next to you in the drink holder.
Here in this house it is all about the Oakland A’s or the Dallas Cowboys, depending on the time of year. My husband has quite a selection of sports memorabilia from both teams, Including an array of bobble heads, baseballs and helmets.
He was surprised this year by our daughter. He has been working 6 days a week for well over a month now, plus taking care of maintenance items around here. So she took him to the opening day game here in Oakland.
He was surprised. She even popped for beer and hot dogs or whatever food her Dad decided on. All I had to do was drop them at the Oakland Coliseum. My husband was like a little kid. Going through all his t-shirts and jerseys making sure he wore just the right baseball cap. It was funny.
I am so happy that she was able to treat her Dad to this special baseball day. A father daughter night. Her husband will even pick them up and bring him home. So it was an easy evening for me as well.
So here’s a big hug to my daughter for treating her hard working Dad to a special day!
